Straight answers
What people ask us first, answered without legal jargon.
Is Fairlease really free?
For tenants who qualify by income and household size, yes. If a court charges a fee, we explain it before we file and ask the court to waive it.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Nélida Rentería and Lisandro Calderón do. For any other language, we arrange an interpreter at no cost to you.
What do I need to bring with me?
The notice or court papers, your lease, proof of rent paid and any texts or photos. No papers? Come anyway.
Will you tell my landlord I called?
No. We contact your landlord only when you ask us to.
Can you stop my eviction?
Nobody can promise an outcome. We can make sure your side is heard and your rights are used.
I don't qualify for free help. Now what?
We tell you plainly, and point you to a referral service or a self-help guide. A short call is still worth making.
I'm afraid to be contacted at home.
Tell us in the form or on the phone how to reach you safely. Use Quick exit if you need to leave this site fast.
Do you represent landlords?
No. If you're a small landlord, call anyway: we'll point you to a bar referral line and explain what to expect.
Still wondering?
Call, text or send the form. Your question is a good one.
Free for tenants who qualify. We tell you about any court fee before we file anything.
